Greetings from the Health and Social Care team at Jisc,
The 1st of July was begining of Talk to Us month. 24th of July will be 24/7 Samaritans Awareness Day.
Samaritans are challenging the UK to become better listeners by sharing expert tips on how to be a better listener. Throughout July, branches are holding events to raise awareness of the services they offer in their local communities. Encouranging people to SHUSH which is easy to remember; which stands for:
S- Show you care; see duty of care and care approaches taken with Imran to see how showing you care empowers individuals
H-Have patience; for an example of how patience can really pay off see the scenario of encouranging Tarik to gain independance.
U- Use open questions; don’t restrict people’s choice of information to give, when working in a team this can be the best way to learn
S- Say it back; it’s easy to be misinformed by assuming something said, to see how easy it is see the importance of communication video
H- Have courage; to see how conflict or strong discussion can be difficult, but over come see the scenario with Adrian
Hopefully the resources help show the impacts of listening and positive communitcation methods and how it can impact an individual, friend or family member.
